Blenheim is the main centre for the Marlborough Region, situated on the Wairau Plain, in the north-eastern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. Blenheim, the “Sunshine Capital” of New Zealand, is located 28 km south of Picton and 128 km north of Kaikoura on State Highway 1.

Blenheim is fortunate enough to be blessed with more sunshine hours per year then anywhere else in New Zealand. Marlborough’s friendly character is defined through this charming town, at the confluence of the Taylor and Opawa Rivers. Blenheim is New Zealand’s largest and most popular wine producing region , that is why it is host to the world famous Wine & Food Festival held here each February,

Blenheim’s activities offer you a unique experience not to be missed. There are over 30 wineries within a 10 km radius of the town centre that can be visited for tasting and tours. A nice way to see the local wineries is by bike, the terrain is flat and you can rent bikes from in the town, or there are a whole range of wine tours available. The local Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is world famous and Montana is the largest producer in the region.

The Taylor River, which flows through the town offers a number water activities, such as fishing swimming etc…. The Wairau River, which flows around the town, is popular for trout fishing, the waters upstream are ideal for kayaking and white water rafting. Mt Richmond Forest Park has 220 km of hiking and mountain biking tracks and 30 bush huts making this a great place to visit. The park also offers trout fishing, hunting, horse treks, rock climbing, trail bike rides and the opportunity to study the unique flora and fauna in the park. At the head of the Wairau Valley, in winter you will find the Rainbow Ski Area, it’s a 90 minute drive south of Blenheim and has a wide variety of ski slopes to cater for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.

Blenheim is not only renowned for its wines, the local gourmet cuisine is definitely worth writing home about. The town has some excellent restaurants, cafes and bars which serve up a distinctly Marlborough flavour, from delectable sweets and liquors to boutique breweries serving natural beers and home made cider.
