New Zealand is a land of fascinating contrasts, with some truly breathtaking natural scenery. It`s got deep blue fiords; golden sandy beaches; lush green rainforests; ancient glaciers; and many lakes and waterfalls. No place is more than 130 kms from the coast. One of the best ways to see this beautiful country is by motor home or campervan. Travelling by campervan gives you the flexibility to go wherever you want, stopover whenever you want and decide how long you want to stay in each place.
You can also map your own routes and venture to places off the beaten track, away from the more predictable tourists destinations. You are in complete control of the journey!
New Zealand is a reasonably small country. It`s quite easy to travel from the top to the bottom of both islands over the space of a few weeks, with plenty of time for sightseeing, off-route excursions and stopovers.
Travelling from the top of the North Island to the bottom will take you approximately 15 hours, covering a distance of 1260km. From the top of the South Island to the bottom will take you approximately 13 hours, a total distance of 915km.
New Zealand has a huge variety of campgrounds, motor home parks and DOC (Department of Conservation) campsites spread out all over the two islands. It will cost you between NZ$30 - NZ$50 per night for 2 people and a motorhome for a powered site.
Most DOC campsites offer basic facilities such as: toilets, cold running water and showers. They`re often set amongst some spectacular natural surroundings.
If you rent a motor home or a campervan from a reputable dealer you`ll be provided with comprehensive travel information, including details on camping grounds, maps, New Zealand Traffic rules, sightseeing brochures and general information. |
