There are several options for getting to and from Greymouth. There are air services to and from Greymouth airport, connecting the West Coast with the rest of New Zealand.

Rail travel has always been a part of the Greymouth and the town is the terminus for the Transalpine rail journey, on the midland line. This spectacular journey across the Southern Alps from Christchurch and is considered to be amongst one of the world’s great rail journeys.
